You might want to take your career in a different direction….

Your mid-career working for an organisation that offers plenty of internal avenues – whether that be a sidestep or a step up…..

How can I demonstrate that I have the attitude and desire to progress?

Rachael's Story:

My ideal job would be in a school. As a 38-year-old mother with a disabled child and having worked most of my adult life in either retail or hospitality, working in a school would be perfect for me. I’m at the stage where I need to focus on both my family and yet still want to contribute towards a career as I still have a lot to give. In my previous roles, I have been successful holding down some big responsibilities… in some cases assistant manager for a high turnover retail store, but jumping from job to job and other than being a parent, I have no experience or knowledge of working within a school and my education is predominantly based around performing arts and dance – not much use to a school unless it was for a teacher and even then, I would need a degree not to mention need better maths, English and science GCSE grades. So how did I give myself a fighting chance to at least get an interview….

That’s where joining the institute of CPD as a member came into play. It helped point me in the direction of where to find industry insights within education – things like safeguarding for example, something of which I would’ve never known about before and would’ve relied solely on a cover letter and transferable skills on my CV. It also demonstrated how I can reskill myself by providing a marketplace where I can find reliable and trusted learning. It is thanks to this membership that enabled me to access the learning I needed as well as giving me post nominals after my name that I can proudly use as an employability tool on both my CV and LinkedIn channel.

Important Information:

Applicants for Member status may be required to provide evidence of their date of birth and qualification criteria. On meeting the criteria, iCPD Members can upgrade their membership to iCPD Fellow, and receive the post-nominals FInstCPD.

The world is always changing and will continue to do so. This means we all have to find ways of continuing to learn throughout our lives.

Joining the Institute of Continuing Professional Development, which is committed to standards, is a simple and practical step to develop CPD more systematically.

Through my involvement I have had some interesting conversations I would not otherwise have had and gained several valuable insights from them".
