How is CPD defined?

CPD, a key component of lifelong learning, can be defined as the systematic maintenance and improvement of knowledge, skills and competence, and the enhancement of learning, undertaken by an individual throughout his or her working life.

What constitutes CPD?

One or more of the following can normally be counted towards CPD:

  • Certified attendance at conferences, seminars, workshops or courses having a formal structure. 
  • Successful completion of a relevant programme of accredited study. 
  • Private study, the learning outcomes of which can be demonstrated. 
  • Attendance at meetings, working groups or panels where a significant personal contribution is made. 
  • Job development and experience-based learning.
  • Assisting in the professional development of others through coaching, mentoring, assessing or counselling.
  • The publication of material, including research, relating to one’s profession. 
  • The preparation and delivery of presentations to colleagues, fellow professionals or the public.

Application form for Fellowship/Membership of the Institute

For employees of HSBC Global Transaction Banking

The grade of Member is open to individuals who confirm their commitment to their own CPD and support the concept of CPD as an integral part of lifelong learning.

Applicants for the grade of Fellow are required to meet the criteria for Membership and, in addition, undertake at least 40 hours of qualifying learning activity, including completion of the complusory activities detailed on the Learning Activity form. This is an annual requirement for completion in the preceding 12 months.

All applicants must be over the age of 21, and obtain the signature from the bank confirming completion of our required learning activity in support of their application.
